How to Measure Your Foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper in the evening (feet swell during the day), wearing the socks you plan to wear.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe and the back of your heel, then measure the distance in centimetres.
  3. Measure both feet and use the larger one. Between two rows, most people prefer the larger size for sneakers and the closer fit for heels.

Frequently Asked Questions

EU 38 equals which US size?

EU 38 matches a foot length of about 23.7 cm — that is US women's 7, US men's 5.5, UK 5 and Japan 23.7. Brands vary, so confirm on the brand chart.

Are Chinese and EU shoe sizes the same?

In retail they are effectively the same numbering: a Chinese size 38 shoe is the EU 38 row. Newer Chinese labels may also show foot length in millimetres (e.g. 240), which is simply the cm column times ten.

US men vs women sizing — what is the difference?

For the same foot length, US women's sizes are about 1.5 higher than US men's — a women's 8.5 is roughly a men's 7. Width lasts also differ.

What if I am between two sizes?

For sneakers and everyday shoes most people size up; for heels or snug fits choose the smaller row. Wide feet often need half a size up.

How often should kids' feet be measured?

Every two to three months for toddlers — feet can grow a full size in that window. Check toe room: about a thumb's width (1–1.5 cm) ahead of the longest toe.

Size conversions are reference values anchored to foot length. Brands cut differently — always check the brand's own chart before buying. Adult and kids tables use the open MySizeCharts data set (CC BY 4.0). · Size data · Read our fashion coverage
