Many of us have just begun to wrap our heads around our fall wardrobes , but in no time at all, we'll be plotting for winter as the temperature plummets. There is nothing spookier than feeling underprepared for the coldest months of the year, both practically and fashionably.
Thankfully, the Fall/Winter 2026 runways prepared us for this moment, and there are plenty of trends to consider as you build your cold weather wardrobe, especially by way of accessories. Hats, brooches, gloves, and big boots were all over the FW26 runways earlier this year, and now is the time to prepare to indulge in what's been on our mood boards all year.
Below are the top trends for winter 2026.
While fur and faux fur have been circulating the trend cycle for plenty of seasons now, the fur coats have become fur jackets, cropped above the knee for a more top-heavy silhouette. At Saint Laurent, Valentino, Khaite, and Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2026, there were plenty of examples of short fur jackets, either belted at the waist or cropped above for added shape.
Skinny suits are back! According to brands like Prada and Jil Sander, the skinny suit is in favor this season, which makes it perfect for layering. Silhouettes have become skinnier in general, so this is no surprise, really. It's all about skinny lapels, skinny jeans, bodycon dresses, and now, skinny suits.
Gloves are both essential for winter temperatures and for accessorizing, as seen by Givenchy, Paloma Wool, Balenciaga, and more, who all offered up leather gloves for Fall/Winter 2026. At Balenciaga and Mugler, it was about sleek, leather opera gloves, while at Paloma Wool, two-toned biker gloves were styled alongside shearling jackets and funnel neck outerwear.
In menswear, brooches have been popping up on the red carpet plenty of late, but this season, we're borrowing back from the boys with a more expressive approach. Big, floral brooches and rosette-style pins were all over the Fall/Winter 2026 runways, seen at Khaite, Simone Rocha, Tom Ford, Moschino, Dries Van Noten, and more. Sometimes a good winter accessory only has to sit on a lapel.
Royal purple has been at the forefront of the trend cycle of late, and it all started with the Fall/Winter 2026 collections, which saw the electric hue emerge at Loewe, Tory Burch, Celine, and Givenchy. Both red and cobalt blue remain a mainstay each year, season, and decade for trending colors, so it makes sense why royal purple, almost the lovechild of the two iconic hues, is having a moment right now.
Swap your burgundy for purple this winter!
While it may seem antithetical to opt for a raincoat in winter, for Fall/Winter 2026, it was all about the waterproof trench, which can be adapted and worn over coats for the colder months to keep sleet and snow out. Nobody wants to get their wool wet, anyway.
Many of us end up opting for a humble beanie when things get too cold, but the Fall/Winter 2026 collections this year proposed a different approach via some great hats. At Louis Vuitton, Nicholas Ghesquiere offered shearling triangular hats that almost looked like hoods, while at Miu Miu it was about wool hats with fur-lined ear flaps.
Over at Balenciaga, little boiled wool shrunken hats sat atop models' heads, and at Fforme, fur hoods were offered in sand, grey, and black, matching outfits with headgear.
Big boots are always a winter essential, but this season it was all about big boots with ample calf space and, subsequently, ample pant-tucking space. Tall, knee-high boots this season had wide openings at Chloé, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Paloma Wool, and Balenciaga, for plenty of layering opportunities.
