When it comes to eye makeup, Oscar-winning actor Charlize Theron typically keeps things pretty minimal, preferring a statement hairstyle or colorful lip instead of bold eye shadow. But that doesn't mean she always sticks to a beauty uniform, either! For an amFAR gala in Dallas, Texas, the star took flight with a sculpted, winged-out bronze smoky eye.

Theron, who has been working with amFAR for decades and accepted the Award of Inspiration at the gala, looked equal parts pretty and punk on the red carpet. Makeup artist Kate Lee, who is part of Theron's “hair and makeup family of champions,” brushed on a rich bronze shadow all over the star's lids and outward, creating a graphic wing shape that extended all the way to the tip of Theron's brow.

The shadow was the perfect balance of cool and warm tones with a satiny finish, making Theron's green eyes stand out so dramatically, they're practically all you can focus on. (Lee works with Chanel, so for a similar shade, try the brand's Ombre Première Lacque liquid shadow in Desert Wind.) The shadow did most of the heavy lifting, with only a touch of liner and mascara to further accentuate Theron's eyes.

Slim, defined brows, peach blush, and a soft nude lip served as the foundation for her gala glam.

Hairstylist Adir Abergel kept the cool, punky-chic vibes going with an effortlessly cool updo, leaving a few strands free and giving them a waved, wet-look texture that paired beautifully with the winged-out shadow and Theron's black-and-red Givenchy jumpsuit.

The actor's makeup is right on trend; a handful of makeup pros spotlighted mineral-y, shimmery shadow finishes like her bronzy color and its smoky—but not intensely smoky—finish as big looks to try this fall and winter. And with holiday parties right around the corner, there's never been a better time to break out your makeup brushes!
