When it comes to menswear, Alexander Skarsgård is one of Hollywood’s freakiest dressers. The Swedish actor is not afraid to experiment and take big, bold swings on the red carpet.
Remember when he slipped into kinky leather-daddy looks while promoting his film Pillion last year? Including full-on leather wader boots at Cannes?
The man has unhinged fun with fashion—and he’s continuing to bring that same energy into a brand new press tour for his new fantasy rom-com, Wicker.
Skarsgård attended a screening for his movie at the BFI London Film Festival this evening, and he brought along a head-turning outfit for the occasion. (Does he ever not?) The star wore a golden two-piece suit by Saint Laurent, wearing it sans shirt for a hunkier approach. (The French label just showed a whole gilded womenswear collection in Paris last week—how on trend of him.)
But all that is an aside. . . because did you see his shoes?
The actor bravely stepped out at his movie premiere wearing Saint Laurent’s pointed, clear PVC lace-up oxfords—totally exposing his bare feet for all of the world to see. An important point is that he could have worn them with a sock, of course, but he chose not to: He wanted the dogs to come out to play. Yes, we zoomed in on his toes—and yes, we can report they’re well manicured.
When Saint Laurent first showed the saucy (and polarizing) shoes on the runway, people had many thoughts about them. Mainly, there were concerns about how steamy and foggy they can get while wearing them sockless. "I can already smell the foot sweat," one user wrote.
But sometimes, we’d argue fashion need not be practical: Clearly, these are a freaky shoe designed simply for a viral moment. Like those Chanel barefoot sandals that Margaret Qualley wore.
You’re not going to be wearing these to, like, the grocery store: They are created to get people talking on the runway or step-and-repeat. And props to the stars who have enough confidence to wear such risky accessories.
Sure, they may not be to everyone’s taste—but isn’t a kooky little shoe better than a sea of boring ones? We need a little spice!
A pep in one’s step!
