If you're a Coveteur reader, you probably already know this about us, but allow me to reiterate: we have a bit of a foot fixation . We're not going to call it a fetish , but we're definitely co-signers of the freaky footwear trend .

So, naturally, when New York Fashion Week rolls around, we pay close attention to footwear both on and off the runway. For street style, in particular, we've noticed show-goers taking bold swings when it comes to their footwear choices.

The first fun shoe sighting that caught my attention was a pair of black-and-white polka-dot kitten heels. They were styled with black kick flare pants, a top covered in illustrations, and a striped bag—pattern clashing at its finest.

Ahead, see those and more of the statement shoes we're coveting.

All of these looks remind us that footwear can achieve its funky status in multiple ways: through pattern, material, color, and/or silhouette—the possibilities are truly endless.

We were equally captivated by a pair of cowhide mules, crocheted slides, and woven moccasins.

We're not surprised to see general fall trends like suede and fringe reflected through footwear. On the streets of New York, fringed sandals and suede kitten heels with lace-up detailing made statements.

Statement shoes apply to boots, too. We spotted dramatically thigh high red suede boots and a bit of a boot pump hybrid with dramatic lacing akin to a sexy leather corset. While it makes sense to approach shoe shopping with a capsule wardrobe mindset, this is all a sign to make room in our wardrobes for a statement pair or two.
