Nike’s Moon Shoe has been back in the conversation for a while now, but this latest iteration gives the cult silhouette a slightly different look. Rather than the more colorful takes we’ve seen from the OG runner, this one keeps things almost entirely black.
The Black/Sail colorway does exactly what it says on the tin, with a black nylon upper, matching laces and sole, while the Sail Swoosh breaks things up without doing too much. There’s also a tiny hit of orange on the tongue, because apparently even Nike’s most pared-back sneakers need a little pop.
It works particularly well on the Moon Shoe. The silhouette is already pretty distinctive , from its super-slim shape to that famous waffle sole , so stripping back the palette makes it feel a little less like you’re wearing a piece of running-shoe history and more like, well, a really good black sneaker.
And that’s probably the appeal here. The Moon Shoe has never needed much convincing, but this version makes the case for having one in your rotation if you’ve been holding off on the more out there iterations.
It’s still unmistakably the Moon Shoe, just without quite as much going on. The Sail details keep it from looking completely uniform, while that little orange flash is enough to remind you that this is still Nike.
